I began riding at the age of 9 and got my first horse at the age of 15. He was a PMU draft horse from Canada. We began actively competing together within the first year. After which we moved from Long Island N.Y. to the suburbs of Washington D.C. with my family. It was quite an experience to move to an area riddled with thoroughbreds with my big draft horse and start hitting the local circuits. I was introduced to United States Pony Club, and they were introduced to a draft horse that could crank his knees up to his eyeballs and turn on a dime. Through out my remaining junior years, I continued to ride anything I could get my hands. I competed in U.S.P.C. show jumping nationals 3 times. Claiming multiple clear round status in two of them. My last championships our team placed second on the East Coast. We also qualified for indoors at Harrisburg in 1997 for the Marshall and Sterling Adult Jumper Finals. During my final junior years and on to my early adult years, I developed a reputation for breaking and bringing along babies and youngsters as projects. I also developed a knack for rehabbing horses that were either ill behaved, or poorly trained and turning them around. Many went on to compete in the USEF recognized levels of eventing and hunters very successfully. Though, unfortunately I have lost track of most of them now. In 1997 my jumper was 19 and I decided to find a mare that had the qualities I wanted in a broodmare and pick a suitable stallion and develop my next competition horse completely from scratch. David and I got engaged on Valentines day, 1999 and my first breeding experiment, "Hundred Acre Wood" AKA "Emily" hit the ground 7 days later on a cold Virginia Sunday morning. David and I were married that same August and Drumfields Farm was born. Breeding took a bit of a back seat while we brought along "Emily" and David pursued his masters in medical microbiology. However this gave us plenty of time to pick a direction for our breeding program and establish the qualities we wished to see in our herd. Upon David's graduation we briefly moved around the mid Atlantic coast before settling on a beautiful piece of land just outside Tryon, N.C.. Our first breeding, Hundred Acre Wood is now 9 years old and is a champion amateur owner hunter whom I compete locally and at a few USEF A shows a year. We have two TB broodmares and one up and coming Welsh pony broodmare. All are currently being used to breed ponies for the hunter ring. Our goal is to produce ponies with outstanding movement and conformation without sacrificing sensibility or temperament. It's very difficult to cram all that into one package. But we firmly believe that sensibility and temperament in the mare have to come first before looking at it's movement and conformation. We have found that in developing our program in this manner, we have put fancy sensible foals on the ground that any child can safely handle. If you would like more information about our program, current breeding stock for sale or stock currently showing please email or call us. We love visitors and would be happy to make an appointment to show around you the farm.
